Our names are Nathan Bredeson and Michael Ibsen, and we would like to invite you to come hear us perform and share new music for guitar by Canadian composers at an evening concert put on by the Quinte Society for Chamber Music! We are two Canadian classical guitarists (from Ottawa and Edmonton), and we met at a guitar festival in Montreal, where we discovered our shared love for new music. We have both lived and studied across Canada and internationally,
but we are very excited about this upcoming tour where we will be playing a program of all new pieces by some of Canada’s brightest living composers of different generations and backgrounds. As Nathan is an award-winning composer this concert will also feature a special new piece by him commissioned and performed by Michael which is an homage to Dmitri Shostakovich. This collaboration grew from our mutual love for his music. The program is varied, from tango-inspired music by Patrick Roux to geometric and aleatoric music by Jason Noble to music inspired by ‘that old back brook’ by Dale Kavanagh. We hope you will come hear what Canada’s composers and guitarists have been up to, and we look forward to meeting you.
